Step Smart - Falls Prevention

The number of falls among Lee County seniors is more than double the state average. Falls are very preventable with a few simple home improvement steps and lifestyle changes.

Here are some ideas to safeguard your home:

  • Get rid of small throw rugs or use double-sided tape to prevent rugs from sliding
  • Have your health care provider review your medications
  • Have your vision checked
  • Begin a regular exercise program
  • Place grab bars next to the toilet and in the tub or shower
  • Improve the lighting in your home
  • Place handrails and light on staircases
  • Reduce clutter so you don’t trip
  • Wear shoes inside the home and outside
